Het was wel in de vakantie maar het zal velen zijn opgevallen dat er ernstige ongeregeldheden in Engeland waren, de Engelse Foyer Federation heeft met een aantal andere partijen samen hier een verklaring over uitgebracht, die hier onder is geplakt. Kern is dat er alternatieven zijn.
Peter Paul Doodkorte, partner bij adviesbureau BMC ging in een column ook in op de rellen. Vanuit het idee dat sommigen geen waardering krijgen kunnen ze gefrustreerd raken, en dan kan het van kwaad naar erger gaan. A coalition of six youth charities, including the Foyer Federation, Catch 22, The Prince's Trust, Rathbone, Youth United and Groundwork, have issued a joint statement:
"We are appalled by the riots taking place across the UK's major cities.
"We know that the vast majority of young people are not involved in this serious criminal activity and take great pride in their communities.
"We want to remind young people everywhere, whatever their background, that there is help at hand for those who do not want to get involved with crime and anti-social behaviour.
"There is support for young people across the UK to improve their prospects - and we urge young people to stay safe, shun the violence and seek support to steer a positive course through life."
The six charities are all members of the Youth Action Group, which was set up to ensure joined-up action to help the UK's most disadvantaged young people and address the issues faced by young people in society.
Guidance for young people:
Stay away from the trouble. Watching puts you at risk of becoming a victim and makes it harder for the emergency services to deal with the problems.
You may be tempted to be involved or be offered stolen property. Think carefully about what you do as the choices you make could affect the rest of your life.
